Show and Tell - March 2026 πŸ‘€

What are you looking at in the banner photo above?  It is one of my favourite pictures from this season. It was the last picture I took on the morning we were leaving Roatan. If you look across the beam on the deck and then up on the roof of the palapa you should be able to count 5 pelicans. Not grackles or roosters. Just happy-go-lucky pelicans. I wanted to collect some of my favourite pictures here and share them with you if you want to see.  I want to see them and review them again and again.  Mostly this is show - and a bit of tell. Fun With Friends Connecting is what we do. We always look forward to these times. Home Visits We are frequently invited to come visit. And so, we do! Who do you see? Go around, starting at the left - Jimena, - look at how tall she is ( like her mama); Keliani - that whole family LOVES animals - in and out of their house;  Francis - on my first visit Francis was flat in bed but with the therapy she is receiving and good attention from ...

🚧 The Bodega Project 🚧

With a team coming from the US eager to build a bodega (shed) next to the new parking lot at Clinica Esperanza, Peggy contacted Franklin to prepare the cement pad for them to build on. Franklin confirmed with Larry about supplies and placement of the pad. Soon Larry and Franklin had their days filled, checking prices, preparing the ground, and ordering supplies.  The foundation was dug and cement mixed and poured. The pad was completed with time to spare.  While waiting for the team, blocks, cement, a cement mixer, and other supplies were ordered. All was ready for the team to come.  A team of 5 eager workers arrived. They were happy to have the local team of Franklin, Larry, Nahun and Milton join them and the walls took shape. The team had seen the walls going up but had to leave the local team to finish.  While waiting on the cement in the blocks to set, again Franklin and Larry canvased local hardware stores for the remaining materials to add the trusses, roof, do...

🌞🌴And Just Like That - We're Home Again

Greetings! Hola! And just like that – we’re home again. You all know how much we enjoy being in Roatan and return when we can because we miss the people we share life with. What we don’t miss is the noise. From about 4:45am when those grackles start their cackles, through until after we are zzzzzz, there is a constant assault on our ears. We enjoy the sounds of people calling out on the street and kids playing whatever the sport of the day is. We have even begun to tolerate the cheesy country music blaring from Carlitas’ store (and more). But what we dislike is the sound of those souped-up motos that roar by, and the delivery trucks roaring to a stop next door, and taxi horns blaring because someone stopped and honking will make them hurry and go. It is constant. All day. Every day. So – for the past week we have been enjoying SILENCE . Home Sweet Home. Do you recognize Oscar? He’s center in the picture above. It’s hard to believe that the skinny little guy we studied with for seve...

🫢🏼 Our (Almost) Half-time Show πŸ‘€

As there is much to-do about halftime shows this weekend, we are sending you one that is family-friendly and will give you all sorts of warm fuzzies as we share in pictures what we have been doing during the first weeks of our time back in Roatan.       These first weeks have been a time of preparations for back to school - registrations, shopping, and problem-solving. Larry has had some time for exploring the local hardware and lumber yards. Although the weather has not motivated beach time (Mr. Sun seems to have gone on vacation - "maybe next week" everyone says - again) there have been opportunities to return to a few local restaurants, and also share in family celebrations. Best of all, it has been a time to reconnect with friends and share our stories.  There have been lots of smiles and hugs, and lots of walking as we get out and about.  It's why we're here, and what we enjoy.  So Good to See You! Sometimes it's a quick on-the-street hello, sometimes ...

πŸ“£ Tidings πŸ“£

Merry Christmas! I know it isn’t just me – 2025 has just zipped by as all of us have filled every moment with lots of activities and memories. We expect that each of you are looking forward to a full calendar of upcoming Christmas events and opportunities to create more memories before the year ends. Enjoy it all! We are sending TIDINGS. There have been so many times we have received news from Roatan this fall, and we want to share the news with you. We also want to catch you up on our plans to return in January, and what we hope to see and do while we are there.   To begin – fanfare - we want to congratulate Keliani on her graduation from grade 12. (picture above). We met Keliani in Kids’ Church when she was 6 years old. She is the oldest of six and takes on many responsibilities in her home. Completing grade 12 is such an accomplishment and we are so proud of her! Having that diploma in hand should make such a difference in her opportunities. The other students we sponsor ...

🐠 Summer Visit in Photos πŸ’«

The  Summer of '25. It seems wherever you found yourself this summer, it was HOT. And, no  doubt about it - summer in Roatan is a hot time. You just know it is, so you get on with whatever your day holds - morning is best. For us this summer, we were able to spend much of our time visiting. We caught up with all of our students and made tentative plans for next school year. We were able see moms and kids that we were missing. A few house repair jobs were completed. We also enjoyed time relaxing. There is, after all, a reason for that siesta time in the afternoons. Take a peak - time for Show, Not Tell.  (For Tell, see update published previously "Summer on the Island"). 🌴Out and About πŸ’œ Our Grown-Up Kids Top left and around: Greicy; Coco with Senia and baby Leah; Jessie with baby Dilan; Oscar with Saira. πŸ’™ Our Kids on Parade - Independence Day Parade Sept. 14 and 15, 2025. (Pictures sent since - we weren't there.) Top left and around: Genesis, Owen, Matthew and V...
