Flor and her baby were whisked off to the baby hospital where the baby had to go through all sorts of tests to confirm that she wasn’t contaminated from being born outside of a hospital.          Roatan Campbells' Connection           August 2024        We heard it the first morning we were back home. And the second morning. And most of the time between morning and night… Silence… Nothing – a bird chirp, crickets and cicadas - and then nothing. You can sense this silence like it is sound when your ears have become accustomed to constant clamor. Where we live in Roatan it is never silent. While quiet is what we enjoy here, down-on-the-farm, noise is as much a part of Roatan as heat and palm trees. The cacophony of country-Christian-reggae-rap music, squealing tires, and people calling out are background sounds to living. There is the endless roaring of motorcycles many with anti-mufflers.   August 2024 When you travel to the tropics in the summer, you know it is going to be a sizzling time. As I am preparing this photo blog, I am settled into a chair - not outside, but inside under the helicopter blades of the ceiling fan - and we are ready for lift-off.....  While the temperatures are sweltering , it is the incredible opportunities that have really warmed our hearts. We hope you, too, are warmed as you see these smiling faces. Cute Kids Of all our pictures, the ones that warm our hearts the most are those pictures of the kids we know. They call out to us as we walk by their houses. They are happy to have their pictures taken. And - content.  That’s how we’re feeling coming home from our recent trip to Roatan, Honduras. We stayed 11 weeks, which was the longest stretch we have had for many years. As we explained to friends when it came time to leave, Larry had to go home to prepare for the upcoming planting season. And we needed to be home for the family March/April birthday celebration. As we reflect on our time in Roatan, we also have much to celebrate as a result of this season in Roatan. We are encouraged to see there is more work on the island. Since 2020, we have felt so much discouragement from people who had no work. While we knew it was important to provide for the people God put in our path at that time, that time has passed for 4 of the 6 families we have watched over. This is not to say that everyon...

  Hello to all! It really takes some discipline to settle into this chair and put the things we want to share with you into an update. There are the inviting distractions of the island calling. “Yoohoo! Come out and see what I have for you today.” Come visit. Come walk. Come share. Come out. It’s Island time. But we are at the halfway time of our season. It’s time to reflect on what we’ve seen and done and share a bit with you. So, sit down – feet up – it’s island time. Over the past two weeks we have been excited to see the parade of kids as they wind their way to and from school. A few of these kids are ours – kids we’ve been given to encourage and cheer on. Hello All,                                                                                      February 5 It's been 3 weeks since we left the true North with its nippy temperatures. As we understand it, there has been really cold times, moderate temperatures and now messy mud. And so which do you prefer? And here? It is coming to the end of rainy season so some days are cool and rainy and some are teasing of what is to come when it gets hot. We do not mind that it is getting hot. During these three weeks, we have accomplished so much of what we had planned for preparing students for school and reconnecting with friends.
