Celebrate With Us

November is celebration month for students. Special projects are completed. School is wrapping up and students receive recognition for all their efforts. It is also rainy season so hanging laundry and getting it dry is a reason to celebrate!  We are so thankful for internet and friends who send us many updates and pictures so that despite missing the celebrations, we can share from a distance. In turn,


we want to share with you too.

Giggle

It’s slow tourist season on the island. Belkis and her brother were able to travel to the mainland to visit family and tour some places they had never been. I really shouldn’t enjoy these two pictures so much – Marcio is a 15-year-old. But – we have had a few giggles at Marcio’s expense.

Rainy Season

Rain, rain, and another day of rain. There’s lots of water to fill the water barrels, but few days to wash (outside) and dry laundry. There are times that clothes are still damp when they are brought inside with the next rain. The families with under the house clothes lines are the lucky ones. Cool nights are opportunities for getting close to your family. Sometimes really close. 

Graduates

Congratulations to all of the kids who completed this school year. The studies were mostly online and independent study with only part-time in class instruction. Our graduates worked extra hard to finish assignments and meet the standards of their grade in order to graduate. We're proud of them all.  * Many thanks to the families for sending us updates and many photos to keep us anxious to return as soon as we can.

As there is much to-do about halftime shows this weekend, we are sending you one that is family-friendly and will give you all sorts of warm fuzzies as we share in pictures what we have been doing during the first weeks of our time back in Roatan.       These first weeks have been a time of preparations for back to school - registrations, shopping, and problem-solving. Larry has had some time for exploring the local hardware and lumber yards. Although the weather has not motivated beach time (Mr. Sun seems to have gone on vacation - "maybe next week" everyone says - again) there have been opportunities to return to a few local restaurants, and also share in family celebrations. Best of all, it has been a time to reconnect with friends and share our stories.  There have been lots of smiles and hugs, and lots of walking as we get out and about.  It's why we're here, and what we enjoy.  So Good to See You! 🐠 Summer Visit in Photos 💫

The  Summer of '25. It seems wherever you found yourself this summer, it was HOT. And, no  doubt about it - summer in Roatan is a hot time. You just know it is, so you get on with whatever your day holds - morning is best. For us this summer, we were able to spend much of our time visiting. We caught up with all of our students and made tentative plans for next school year. We were able see moms and kids that we were missing. A few house repair jobs were completed. We also enjoyed time relaxing. There is, after all, a reason for that siesta time in the afternoons. 🧗The Stairmaster 🔝

Looking for a stairmaster workout? The place to find this would be in the large colonia in Sandy Bay.  With elevations ranging from sea level to up-up-up, the cardio and leg strengthening grind makes it the ideal workout. The land is folded, sort of like a fan, with roads, houses and buildings originally being built in the folds. As the land has filled with people, the houses have been built up and over the folds and up and back to the crest of the island. Estimates of how many people live in this colonia are - estimates. Numbers suggested range from 7,000 to 10,000 people. Many of the houses are accessed by side roads/paths some quite steep running up the folds.    In order to get to the houses beyond these side paths families and communities have dug into the rock (sometimes mud) to create steps.
