🕮 Chapter 1 - The First Three Weeks in Pictures


Hello All,                                                                                     February 5
It's been 3 weeks since we left the true North with its nippy temperatures. As we understand it, there has been really cold times, moderate temperatures and now messy mud. And so which do you prefer? And here? It is coming to the end of rainy season so some days are cool and rainy and some are teasing of what is to come when it gets hot. We do not mind that it is getting hot.

During these three weeks, we have accomplished so much of what we had planned for preparing students for school and reconnecting with friends. These three weeks have been Chapter 1 to our January - March story. We thought we could share what we've enjoyed through pictures. 

Reconnecting:

Some opportunities are planned; some are a wonderful surprise. All remind us why we are happy to be here.

School Preparations:

Back-to-school shopping - Public school begins this coming week.
This past week we joined a few families in making purchases
of uniforms, shoes and backpacks so that the kids are
all ready for a good start to the new school year.

We have 8 students registered for private school. The scurrying about for uniforms and books is being handled mostly by the parents this year.  Soon we won't even be needed. 

We really enjoy our time with Directora Leticia and the staff at Sandy  Bay Adventist School; Matthew is enrolled for his first year of bilingual school and will walk to school with his older siblings; Grace will have a new adventure in grade 10 at a new school.

We can't close this chapter without a few pictures to melt your heart. Other than our grandchildren (😊💞) we don't think you'll find any other kids so adorable. 

Chapter 1 - The End

The perfect ending - Beach Sunday. We had to wait a few weeks but definitely worth the wait. And now? Turning the page to Chapter 2 - can't wait!

🐠 Summer Visit in Photos 💫

The  Summer of '25. It seems wherever you found yourself this summer, it was HOT. And, no  doubt about it - summer in Roatan is a hot time. You just know it is, so you get on with whatever your day holds - morning is best. For us this summer, we were able to spend much of our time visiting. We caught up with all of our students and made tentative plans for next school year. We were able see moms and kids that we were missing. A few house repair jobs were completed. We also enjoyed time relaxing. There is, after all, a reason for that siesta time in the afternoons. 🧗The Stairmaster 🔝

Looking for a stairmaster workout? The place to find this would be in the large colonia in Sandy Bay.  With elevations ranging from sea level to up-up-up, the cardio and leg strengthening grind makes it the ideal workout. The land is folded, sort of like a fan, with roads, houses and buildings originally being built in the folds. As the land has filled with people, the houses have been built up and over the folds and up and back to the crest of the island. Estimates of how many people live in this colonia are - estimates. Numbers suggested range from 7,000 to 10,000 people. Many of the houses are accessed by side roads/paths some quite steep running up the folds.    In order to get to the houses beyond these side paths families and communities have dug into the rock (sometimes mud) to create steps.
